Pig iron, also known as crude iron, is an intermediate product used by the iron industry in the production of steel, which is developed by smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. Pig iron has high carbon content, typically 3.5–4.5%
Pig iron is supplied in a variety of ingot sizes and weights, ranging from 3 kg up to more than 50 kg. Surplus pig iron from DISCO is sold to third parties as feedstock for the steel and ferrous casting industries.
